Museum on the Road
Overview
Museum on the Road is an innovative outreach program by the Corpus Christi Museum of Science & History designed to bring the museum’s educational and cultural programming directly into classrooms across the Coastal Bend region. The idea is to provide enhanced learning experiences, increase access to cultural resources, and strengthen community connections.
When creating the branding for Museum on the Road, the concept was to encapsulate the core of what the program is about – providing education to all students throughout the Coastal Bend area. Through simple yet engaging designs, the Museum on the Road branding provides a glimpse of what the program is, and what the students will be learning.
Branding
Logo Process
When the concept of Museum on the Road was presented to me, I thought about what that could mean visually. I wrote down words like “journey”, “travel”, and “discover”. With those words in mind, I experimented with the logo. I went through iterations that took it more literally and others that pushed the initial idea. What ended up being chosen – with edits – was a logo concept that leaned more into a literal interpretation of Museum on the “Road”, but still had the “ah-ha!”.
Logo
The Museum on the Road logo combines the visual elements of a nautical compass and a dotted path. Considering Museum on the Road is meant to be a form of travel for the Museum’s educational programming, the visual elements are representative of travel and direction. These elements take the viewer on a journey through the logo and the educational programming.
Dynamic Logo
The plan was to have multiple themed trunks based on the education programming. While keeping brand cohesion, the logo will change elements and colors based on each theme so that they can stand out from each other.
Typography
To keep the cohesion between the Corpus Christi Museum of Science & History’s logo and the Museum on the Road logo, I decided to keep the font families the same.Â
Initial Concepts
While the branding was being worked on, the programming was still in its early stages. The education department didn’t quite know the themes of the trunks yet, however, they knew they wanted a Texas History and a science themed trunk. To show potential sponsors, a couple of mockups were created to showcase what the trunks would consist of, and how the collateral would look when set up.
Collateral
The final product ended up with collateral of banners, programming binders, activity books, and stickers for each themed trunk. The final themes were: Ranching, Geology & Paleontology, Animal Adpatations, and Texas Archaeology.
Showing photographs that represented the topics was essential, since it visually shows the students, and teachers, what each topic is about. While the collateral leans more towards photos, the binders and the stickers deviate with illustrations to add some fun and engagement to the lessons.

Solution
From the logo to the visuals, everything was designed with the thought of working with the topics, and not taking away from. The branding was created with the idea to compliment the Museum on the Road mission to provide education and programming to classrooms across the Coastal Bend, while still making learning look and feel fun.
